My and my partner get UC… no one of us work and have a 2 year old… however my partner has just been offered a job but it’s different hours every week.. so this week he’s been in 40hours but next week he will only be needed 16hours, but the week after he might be needed 30 hours.. how would this work, would UC be on the ball and pay me what they should every month still as I don’t want to get behind on my rent also the weeks he only does 16 hours will UC automatically know and give us that extra for that week

Thankyou x

UC is calculated each month so when your partner's wages are declared to HMRC they will calculate based on your entitlement.
I think an important thing to remember is that it shouldn't be wages are his and UC is yours because that will cause problems if wages are higher one month as the UC award will be lower.

Thankyou.. he just gives me all his wages to sort all the bills he never wants anything bless him

@Babyroobs @gogohm @Danikm151 hi all sorry to bother you again but it’s just come to me about my council tax
We only £36 per month due to been fully on UC but now my partner has started work (low hours and low pay) would our council tax go up ? It’s just under £1200 per year but get deduction of just under £850 and it says
Council tax support - 1 child band 😫🤔😤 no idea x

Council tax support schemes are run by individual councils and vary widely.

Notify the council what he earns each month, that way they will adjust it and you won't risk getting a big bill at the end of the year.

shazzz1xx · 16/08/2021 20:59

@LakieLady Thankyou for your reply but we cannot say what my partner earns as his hours vary every week last week he did 40 he this week will be maybe 16 hour etc 😫🤯 x

It will all depend on what council you live under. They all have different criteria for council tax support and will generally want to know your monthly income.
You can ask for the payments to be split over 12 months to make it more manageable.

shazzz1xx · 16/08/2021 22:07

Will they be notified by HMRC or UC automatically ? Hope I don’t have to do anything I’m useless at this x

No, you need to notify the council separately.

I'd suggest that you tell them how much his earnings are and how much UC you got as soon as possible after you get your UC payment.

shazzz1xx · 18/08/2021 18:08

Hi Thankyou for your reply.. I contacted council tax today and they already knew and already adjusted our bill and will continue to be adjusted every month as wages varies so for anyone in my situation they already get it thru the system and no need to do anything :) all smiles now x

That's good to know about the council updating monthly. Makes it all a lot simpler.

Will they then tell you how much you have to pay towards it every month?

shazzz1xx · 20/08/2021 13:57

Yes the downside is il get adjusted council tax bills pretty much every month x
