Splitting with husband and not entitled to anything

Copper2020 · 06/08/2021 00:34

I bet £240 a mont box tax credit as I have Ra and my has severe special needs.

I work 20 hours a week

The entitled to call said I’d have to claim Universal credit but it came out at £0.

Could this be right?

Do you get dla for your child ? (Presume that's what you put ?...) do you get PIP for the RA ?

Universal credit essentials have a really good accurate calculator

If you have split and had a joint tax credit claim then yes you will need to make a new claim for Universal credit.
To do a Uc calculation it would depend on whether you have savings ( you cannot claim UC with savings over 16k ), children , rent to pay, whether you are receiving PIP etc.
If you get PIP and are limited in the number of hours you are able to work because of your disability then you can potentially apply to be assessed for limited capability for work which depending on the outcome may give you an extra element on UC or may give you what is called a work allowance on UC ( you would get this automatically if you have kids ). A work allowance means that a certain amount of your wages are disregarded before wages reduce your Uc amount.

The only reason I can see that the calculator would come out with zero if you have kids is because you have savings over 16k. For Universal Credit the savings/ capital rules are very different to Tax credits.

Use the turn2us calculator but make sure you put the disability benefits down as that and not as Income and put you are not receiving benefits like tax credits as that may be where the calculator has been going wrong. It will then tell you what you are entitled to for a new UC claim..
