Bank error

Has anyone heard of this happening. My friend and her husband rent my flat and they owed us £100 which they were to pay yesterday using money from his bank as she hadn't been paid yet.
Anyway she phoned saying a cheque wriiten by someone else has come off her DH's account and now she has to wait til Thursday to give from her account.
Now I'm not losing out but it seems a bit odd.
Apparently has happened before to him with same account. His Bank is HSBC.
He was accused and found guilty a few years ago of moving money fron one account into another whilst he worked at another bank.
He claims was simple mistake.
Anyway would a bank be able to make this mistake more than once.
I am TBH worried about my pal as he has hurt her so much in past and she forgave him quite a big thing a couple off years back.

Yes banks do make mistakes. I once got £200 credited to my account which I wasn't expecting - I checked, and it turned out the cheque had been written to my mother but had been paid into my account - at the same branch and similar names. If I hadn't checked, I doubt they'd have noticed until Mum realised it hadn't been paid into hers. It was HSBC - but was some years ago.

Can't really comment about whether her DH is trustworthy - you just have to hope for the best and be supportive if he turns out not to be..

This does seem a bit odd. I work for a Bank but not in a branch so I don't have anything to do with cheques being drawn etc. However, surely if a cheque WRITTEN BY SOMEONE ELSE was taken from his a/c the Bank would realise this from the cheque number not being his and refund his money immediately? I am presuming that the cheque was obviously not one from his cheque book but was drawn on his a/c. Something doesn't sound right here.

He told her bank wouldn't sort out immediately and would take a couple of days.
The cheque was from different cheque book and account.
Fingers crossed he's on level.
Hate being so suspicious but knowing his history can't help but be.

yes barclays made numerouse mistakes on my account

had my money removed for NO reason... and other peoples cheques paid into my account (THEIR error) twice...

then after i stopped using the account a 'bank error' (and that is even waht the COMPUTER called it) took £500 out of my account...

so i was over drawn... but they were soooo kind

the decided that as i have NEVER been withdrawn before that as a good will gesture they would refund the charge they charged me for THEIR mistake .... how kind of them.... NOT

then i decided i wanted to permantly close the account as i was so fed up.... but i wasnt even allowed to close it because the account was over drawn...

4 visits to the bank later, and they STILL hadnt managed to close my account, (the last 3 isits it should ahve been possible) so i refused to go in after that....

i did it all over the phone DEMANDING to speak to someone higher and higher and higher etc.... told them i would NEVER set foot in barclays again and that my account would be closed and it would be closed right NOW.... eventually it was

(i also got abput £50 back for my time and petrol going to and from the bank sorting THEIR error)

so yes banks do make mistakes and IMO barclays more than most

yes they do make mistakes although most won't admit them.

I used to bank with HSBC.

Until i got a letter saying i was over a thirteen hundred pounds over drawn. Once i picked myself off the floor i went to sort it out. They had put a cheque £13.47 through as £1347.47. They were adamnent in the bank that a mistake hadn't been made.

I said to the lady in the bank that there had been a mistake, she said there hadn't until i said with a dead pan look on my face "I drive a fiesta not a bl**dyy tanker and would not be able to get £1347.47 of petrol in it even if i opened the sunroof and poured it in."

There was a cheer from the que of people waiting, needless to say she went off to investigate and lo and behold she found a mistake.
