My God, I am about to be charged £115.00 by SMILE for going £2.82 overdrawn

As soon as I noticed I had gone £2.82 overdrawn I paid money in and brought myself within my overdraft limit. The bank then charged me immediately £25 (rather than at the end of the month with warning) putting me again over my overdraft limit.

So they have now put me over my overdraft limit which I can't correct til my pay goes in Friday. They are charging me a further £30 plus £15 per day of being overdrawn - by Friday that will be £115.00 for going £2.82 overdrawn

AAAAAAAgggggghhhhh

I would get in touch with them and politely explain the situation. If you get a human being on the other end, they might see reason. A lot of people are taking banks to court to claim back charges like this. It's worth trying a simpler approach first though!

Goood Grief that's appallingly bad!

Call them asap and try to explain the situation as calmly as possible.

We had the same thing but for about £1.28 , unfortunatly they didn't refund the charges and the money that they did take was all of DP's incapacity benefit tbh they didn't give a toss but that was another bank not smile so hopefully you will have better luck!

you might find this website helpful - the Office of Fair Trading are bringing a test case against loads of banks to see whether it is lawful to charge fees like this. Anybody who brings a claim against their bank is generally having their claim put on ice until the test claim is decided, so you would have time to do this if you chose to. It might give you some good ammunition for persauding them not to impose these charges anyway.

I had exactly the same last week with Lloyds, same amount ",82 and by the time they contacted me the fees were already £60.

I spoke with several advisors and when I mentioned watchdog and financial ombudsman fees were waved :-)) instantly. Account is now closed!

Also this link will be helpful if phoning wont help
