I’m taking a new job which is quite highly paid but I’m now separated from my Husband.
My outgoings are £1650 without food and the before school club costs they are around )140 pcm
My youngest son is still in nursery.
How on earth do you earn enough money to get away from UC
I’ll be on £17 ph plus Woking some night shifts which pay 2/300 per shift .
By time you get your net income I’d only seem to be left with enough to cover all the bills.
I get CHB but I haven’t updated this to being a lone parent
Would it make a difference?
Thank you For your input

Do your outgoings include childcare ( in addition to before school care)? As this will make a big difference, I needed tax credits before dc started school but once childcare costs reduced I managed fine and now no childcare so all good. I needed to extend my mortgage term to make things more manageable, is this an option? Remember things will get much easier

Yes I’ve included it with childcare costs but I have a son who’s in nursery so this would roughly cost £360 pcmthen I have 2 children in school club which will come to £140 pcm.
It’s so hard isint it until the childcare costs are reduced.
The most fustrating thing is if there wasn’t so much NI and tax taken off I’d managed just fine on my income 🙃 never mind keep plodding on

Uc is based on net income after tax insurance and pension taken off so really not a bad deal ? Also child maintenance isn't counted for UC so you should get that on top ?
StarCourt · 25/07/2021 22:29

@Evans18 you haven't mentioned maintenance

What are you asking OP?

Use the benefit calculator on entitled to and also look at childcare choices on gov.uk

Do your outgoings include rent? If so, you may well be entitled to some help.

It depends on the hours you work and how often you do one of those night shifts though.

Actually, if you don't pay rent you might still get some, as your work allowance will be higher.

When you know a bit more about how much your gross pay will be, check it out on one of the online calculators. I find entitled to to be the easiest to use.
