Hello all
Is there a threshold on salary to claim Child Benefit?
Thank you

www.gov.uk/child-benefit

£50, 000

The £50 000 is not joint income - if there are two adult wage earners in the home they can both earn up to £50K.

Anyone can claim it regardless of income. If someone in the household earns over £50k then some will need to be paid back. Once you reach £60K it would all need to be paid back via a self assessment tax return. You can also make a claim and opt out of payment to protect your NI credits (only worth it if all CB needs to be paid back)

If you or your partner earn £50k you get taxed on the benefit. If you earn £60k+ you lose all the benefit through tax. There's a calculator online which will work it out for you. Can't see the point in the later so you just tick the box which says you don't want to receive it.

And it decreases between 50k and 60k. Does not just stop at 50k.

You can claim it and not be paid it... so that you get years counting towards your pension if one of you isn't working.

It does seem like madness that a family with one parent earning £60k wouldn't be eligible yet a family where both parents earned £49k would. It surely needs to be done on household income?
