I got a message from universal credit stating they want to call me next week. I am wondering why- it's making me nervous 🤦🏽‍♀️ . Anyone ever had this type of message from universal credit? This is the message below

you have a Universal Credit phone appointment at xxx on xxx 2021. Sign in to your account for details.
No details in my account when I logged in.

How long have you been on uc? Do you work? Or unemployed?

Soberfutures · 08/07/2021 19:33

Is the message not in your journal to view. If you are working and have for some reason earned below minimum then they usually do phone you for a check you are meeting all your commitments.

Somebodyimportant1 · 08/07/2021 19:34

@danni0509 since 2017.

I just got a job and haven't even started as they are still doing criminal checks etc.

@Soberfutures i opened my journal and there are no details of why they want to call me there just time and date of call and what to do if it's not a convenient time.

Also, I am wondering what the new rules are on working and getting universal credit.

How many hours will affect my universal credit?

Sounds like a standard appointment to me.

danni0509 · 08/07/2021 19:47

If you’ve just started work / about to start work it sounds normal, it will just be to go through your claimant commitments, all fairly standard. We had the same x

What you earn depends if you have a mortgage or if you get help with rent costs as you get a different work allowance depending.

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep · 08/07/2021 19:48

It's your appointment. Used to be called signing on, but it's now all over the phone due to covid. You'll have one every 2 weeks unless you find work.
If you've got children then you can earn a certain amount before they start deducting but if you don't, they will take off 63p for every £1 you earn.

danni0509 · 08/07/2021 20:04

How you work out what you’ll get is, add all your elements together, then on a different calculation add up your net wages in your assessment period (take home pay is what they use) then take off your ‘work allowance’ then x 0.63, then take that figure off your first element calculation.

So an example with totally made up figures.

£1800 is the amount of all your elements added together.

You net £2000 in your assessment period.

Take off £293 or £515 if you have a mortgage for your work allowance = £1707.

1707 x 0.63 = £1075.

That’s the amount you take off your ‘element figure’

So my made up one.

£1800 - £1075 = £725 UC.

There is probably a far simpler way of explaining as my explanation makes sense to me but might not to you! but I work our Uc out every month as Dh wages changes as he works shifts and it’s spot on every month how I work it out.

Somebodyimportant1 · 08/07/2021 20:16

@Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep thanks. yes, I use to got to the jobcentre in 2019 but stopped when I went for my Postgrad which needs last oct during covid. Not got a job which I haven't started as they are still doing criminal checks but I have filled in payroll info (bank details, tax details etc)

@danni0509 wow, 😳 thanks very much but I will have to go through your explanation again. I am sure your explanation is great but I need to concentrate more later.

@Sinner10 & @Soberfutures thanks for the reply much appreciated.

Wouldn't it be nice if they just let you know what the call is going to be all about? 🙄 instead of getting people worried and wondering.

Have you inputted online you have accepted a job etc? They may just be chasing that up and seeing how far away a start date is. When I had a call due I put all the info in my journal for them to read and they then cancelled my phone call as they had all the information needed.

Have you looked in your ' to do' list ?

Babyroobs · 08/07/2021 21:15

You should not report starting a job until the day you start. If this is a work commitments phone call from your work coach then tell them you have a job lined up but you may still be expected to look for casual work until your new job starts.

Not everyone gets a work allowance - only if you have kids or Limited capability for work. I guess op may well have kids but just pointing this out in case she doesn't.

There are very limited things this will be about. They only really call you for a couple of reasons - to verify your claim when it's a new claim - and yours is not a new claim, or it is a work commitments appointment to see what you are doing to look for work. If you have a job lined up you have no reason to worry about the call.

Somebodyimportant1 · 09/07/2021 09:36

Hello all, so I wanted in my journal what the call would be about and here is the reply

Whilst the last 12 months plus has restricted the number of contacts with our customers we are now back to operating a fuller service . This means we need to keep in touch with our clients on a more regular basis so this booked phone appointment is a catch up customer care call.

You were all right

I had this and was in a panic. It was for the same day!
They just wanted to verify my personal details over the phone due to only being online last year.
