Making a will

Am making my first will with dh very soon and am asking around to see what other people have done but most people haven't done a will at all!
I'd be grateful for any advice about what I shouldn't forget to do. We have one house and one ds.

Your solicitor should be able to advise you. If you've no reason to not leave stuff to anyone it's relatively straightforward

Thanks Tinker, our solicitor hasn't given me any guidance but we're doing it with her firm.

Our solicitor was very good and guided us through it, after all, she's done hundreds! Some things that we dealt with:
Does the equity in your house (and any money from life insurance) take you over the inheritance tax threshold?
Who do you want as guardians for DS if both of you died?
What happens to the money if both of you die? Who do you want to control the money for DS (not necessarily the same people you want as guardians)? How old will DS be when you let him control it himself? (NB in our wills, DD will have to be 24 before she has complete control of the money, it doesn't have to be 18)
Do you have any requests for funeral arrangements?
It really was very straightforward for us, and I feel much better for having done it.

We had a will writing specialist sort it out for £60 each will. It put the frighteners on us when a close friend died without a will and sadly left his wife and kids with a really bad situation.

As Mrs TM says it was fairly straightforward with a professional adviser who had all the legally-watertight words on his pc so he could pick out/tweak relevant bits for us.

You may need to decide on executors/guardian etc and speak to them first that they are happy to do it.
