Tax credits renewal

Hiya

Just wondering how people's renewals are going?

I've had to declare different income due to pension contributions so now am waiting, which is driving me mad as my award has been reduced in the meantime.

Does anyone know the quickest way to get it sorted? I usually wait until August/September but could really do without that as I've worked out I've actually been underpaid and not overpaid like they are currently saying. I have the same issue every year.

What stages are others at?

@SpideyMom hi, just wondered if your renewal has been finalised as I'm waiting too. Renewed back in May. Got a text like yourself about a week ago to contact them and my income had flagged as I had maternity pay deducted. Was told it would be put through now but am still waiting for any update.

Yes mine updated in 48 hours so if yours hasn't yet I would chase. I did notice on the app it said it had been completed but you were still able to redo it.

I got my finalised award yesterday. This is by far the fastest its ever renewed.

I just find it annoying that I calculate and underpayment each year. This year it was quite substantial to me. They have said its balanced. My award amount received does not add up to what it should have been for last year however they have said its balanced and its final. My income this year was over £2500 less than what they had knowledge of yet it made no difference. Having said that I am grateful to not be owning and will file away my final notice for years to come.

I literally keep every document they send as i live in fear that ten years down the line they will be alleging an overpayment. Im probably being silly but ive never found tax credits easy. I'm actually amazed at how fast this year went through

Thank you. I was worried that was the case, one advisor did say it should be done within 48 hours then when I spoke to the next who claimed the first didn't note my maternity leave she said not to contact again for 8 weeks! I don't know what the issue is.

Glad you got yours sorted and at least don't owe any money back. I wish I'd been like you and held onto all of my letters. Im scared I might need them one day!

Oh how annoying. When I was told it was being done I didn't believe it. So I was shocked when it did update Annoyingly though they have based this year on my lower income from last year despite giving them an estimate of this year due to it hopefully being a proper working year. So already I know I will be overpayed by next year so will set aside the surplus each month ready.

I've only kept the letters because of the horror stories I've read about alleged debts being chased years later having had no knowledge of it at the time. At least the letters give me some sort of peace for now. But you just never know do you.

Just keep this years and then those going forward. As the final award will still state if there are any monies due or owed from previous periods which should be enough to challenge anything if it was ever alleged.

Fingers crossed it gets done soon for you x
