My "trial separation" from H is becoming permanent & although we are still best of friends, financially I will not want to be liable for him or his debts in the future. What does it all mean please?

You are better to make the separation formal which usually means agreeing on certain things,ie finances, kids etc and then drawing up a minute of agreement to this effect. This is when it becomes legally binding. You do not have to be divorced.

We have agreed our finances etc and all is fine with him seeing dc's. Do you mean that we draw something up ourselves? Or see a solicitor?

Best to see a solicitor as this will make it legally binding. If you have both agreed on things then this is fairly straightforward. If you do all this kind of stuff now then further down the line if you wish to divorce then it makes this process simpler also.
