I found a new feature on HSBC app this morning called Balance after Bills. It gives you a view of how much you'll have left after regular bills are paid. I'm not great at keeping on top of finances but this seems useful to me so wanted to point it out if you've not seen it yet.

Hoping this is the start of HSBC adding more of these kinds of useful money management features in.

I'm not trying to harvest HSBC customers, so just go check it out and don't comment below :)

They have had it on the app for a while I agree very handy

Do First Direct have it?

I saw that too, but I'm not sure how useful I find all these 'helpful' features.

How can they know with reliability what's coming out of your account? If you rely on the information and there's a mistake, you'll still be charged/overdrawn or whatever.

I make sure once a month that there's enough money in the account for my direct debits and standing orders (added up in a spreadsheet) and don't otherwise touch that account.

For day to day spending, I put everything on a cashback credit card and the bill is paid off by direct debit, so is just part of the bills that comes out of the current account each month.

Or you could just run two current accounts, one for direct debits and one for spending. Or three, if you want to separate joint/household stuff from personal.

Lots of ways to do it and be in control yourself rather than your bank, which is asking for trouble IMHO. Plus if you have more than one account, you're not stuck if there's a problem with your main bank, which does happen from time to time.

I use it, it calculates based of
Your direct debits etc so they would surely be the same every month.
Obviously I couldn't then spend more without going into my overdraft Grin
They're not 'in control' it's literally just a quick calculation of current balance vs what's expected to come out before payday

I love the HSBC app . I live miles away from my nearest branch so being able to put Cheques in via the app is brilliant . All the features are so helpful.

I did wonder if I was the last to spot it!

I do have a separate household bills account, current account is only for things that are mostly mine (gym membership, phone bill, Netflix etc) so seeing the calculation of what's left was a bit of a revelation to me this morning.
