If you divorce when there are no kids involved are assets always split 50/50?

If you have been together 15 years, married 3 years, no kids, 1 house with 100k equity, one person earning a lot of money, one person not earning a lot of money.

Is it typically a 50/50 split of assets because no children involved?

Yes, I think 50/50 would be the starting point to negotiate from, including an equal split of pensions as well as any equity and savings.

There may be a case to negotiate more by the lower earning partner if they’ve sacrificed their career in any way to support the higher earning partner (eg had caring responsibilities or moved abroad with them and couldn’t work) but generally if they’ve both had the same potential to build careers then I’d expect the split to be 50/50

Be very grateful if your the lower earner.
The marriage bit means it will be a shared, not sure of the split.

Hmmm, 3 years is a short marriage. The court might decide you get to take out only what you put in.

I would be very surprised and dismayed by a 50/50 split in this situation. There is no rationale for it. Short marriage, no children. Realistically, it isn't likely that the lower earning partner will have made any sacrifices for the marriage.

From personal experience, it wasn't a 5050 split. Our earnings were similar, but assets very different. We were amicable, did our sums, agreed something between us. The courts initially rejected it as it wasn't 5050, but after explanation, they accepted it.
