I am currently really struggling to make repayments on credit cards.

However it’s very temporary and will be able to clear the balance in less than five months when I go back to work.

Is it possible to have a sort of payment holiday?

Yes, depending on your circumstances and the credit companies. Best thing would be to phone up each company and discuss with them, tell them your situation and that it is temporary and when you would be able to clear the balance. You could ask for either a payment holiday or reduced payments for that time.

Can you not even make the minimums? Not even if you cut back massively on your other bills and live on beans on toast to free up a bit of extra money, or sell something?

Or if you're very certain you can get back on track in a very short space of time, is there anyone you could borrow the money from to make the minimum payments, which are usually quite small unless you're thousands in debt.

Might you still qualify for an interest free balance transfer? What's the circumstances behind the temporary inability to pay anything at all but being confident that you'll be able to pay them in full in under 6 months?
