Who do you tip?

I tend to give my hairdresser and the person washing my hair a couple of quid each. I also give a Christmas tip to the milkman. I leave tips in sit down restaurants.

However, I wondered what other people tip for. What about for beauty treatments? or say the window cleaner?

Just curious really. I don't begrudge giving tips at all but I can't really afford to give money away willy nilly.

I'm the same, but then I don't tip Amazon delivery drivers and don't understand why I think of them differently!

Good point.

Though I always think those delivering food are do it as supplementary work and I can't imagine they get paid well. I can't imagine it's a job of choice though and I'd glad to be corrected

It must be really tough because they are dependent on the number of takeaway orders made that night. I just feel really mean not tipping when I'm enjoying a nice dinner. I've no idea what they normally get tipped, though, or how much of their income is in tips.

No one. It is not needed in this country.

I agree, they do rely on tips to supplement their incomes.

I tip based on a percentage of what I have spent on a takeaway, the same as I would in a restaurant. Obviously if my bill is small I won't give less than £1.50.

If I order through Deliveroo I can add the tip at check out in multiples of £1. With Just Eat I tip the rider personally, keeping social distance means I put the money in an envelope on doorstep.

I tip grocery deliverers £3-5 depending on what I've spent.

Taxi drivers usually £2, I don't do long journeys.

Amazon people I never see, they put packages in my 'safe place'.

Gosh, thats nice. What country is that if you don't mind me asking?

I always tip my hairdresser. She gives me a lovely scalp massage and styles my hair the way I want it. Always in sit down restaurants. Postman gets some sort of treat at Christmas but not cash. Taxi drivers if they haven't driven like arseholes. I'll tip on ubereats for takeaways but not other takeaways because I never carry cash/coins.

I'm from America where you tip for everything - the bartender gets $2 just for giving you a drink!

Only tip in restaurants. I think that hairdressering costs enough.
I never understand the principle of tipping tbh. If it was for low paid workers should't careworkers, hospital porters, admin workers etc get tipped?

Hairdressers - £10 (which I ask them to split 50/50 if a different person washed my hair).

Cabs - 10% up to 20% if they saved my bacon.

Nails/eyebrows/etc. Round up to the nearest round number.

Restaurants - service charge, I add 15% if they were particularly good.

Posh Hotels - £5 for carrying bags.

MyNameForToday1980 · 25/04/2021 10:43

And Deliveroo driver - just over 10%
