Which jobs do you work around your children? And a husband that is on call! So no evenings, due to on call, but that works around pick up/drop off? Also what do you do during the school holidays? Any advice would be great!!! Thank you!!

I retrained as a Chartered IFA. Great job, run my own diary, totally flexible. It is frankly the unicorn job for mums. There aren't enough of us about.

How did you get on @Sunshineday1? Any progress?
@Justanticipating the civil service is huge and has seen great change over the last year, no one organisation will be the same but generally speaking it is well known for its flexibility. My CS organisation allows WFH with only 2 days a month in the office for everyone except IT staff, so that would cover lower level roles that don't require huge amounts of experience. It's a good place to start and is absolutely a helpful suggestion.
From my area, there's no entry level positions. I have close friends that work within Cs who love it for the flexibility and progression, so I do understand it to an extent. But they have tried to help me get in, but there's only expertise jobs that are extremely competitive. I live near a major city too and have some good solid experience.
I personally want to get out of office work.(Previously worked in financial audit) and don't want to WFH, it's also not for everyone but the suggestions make it seem like anyone can get in easily.

I work for the NHS. It's an admin role and it has flexible hours. There are core hours and then employees can decide when to start and finish outside those core hours. I work full time hours but compressed so only 4 days. The pension is also really really great. My child is still at nursery but I know others can take time out to attend e.g. school plays, just have to make up the hours later

Recruiter, home based work for myself.
Another unicorn type role. But if you know how to recruit it's very easy to set up as a sole trader, wfh and make a good wage.

GiantToadstool · 26/06/2021 17:02

There arent cs jobs near me. Do they tend to be big cities?

superduster · 27/06/2021 13:42

I work for a university in admin. Pay isn't great but hours/conditions/flexibility and longer term possibility for progression is fab. And the long holidays mean I only have to sort childcare for half terms.
