advice wanted on supermarket deliveries, for a bad back

I've just ordered my first couple of loads of online shopping in years, and I've some worries about the delivery. I only just noticed after it went through that my Sainsburys order will arrive unbagged, and I might have trouble picking stuff up if it's going to be left on the floor.
I have trouble bending, and if I have to get into an awkward position or bend too deeply, I will be in trouble. My Asda order is bagged and should be easier to pick up.

Can I ask how it is likely to arrive? They used to come onto my front garden path with a trolley loaded with shallow crates, is it still like that?

It'll be in the crates loose and the driver steps away then you do a hell of a lot of bending to pick it up.

Amend the order and add bags and also on the delivery note put that the order must be bagged as you are unable to bend

Sainsbury's don't do bags I asked them, they stopped last august. I'd tweet or give them a ring to see what adjustments they can make

We put our garden table next to the front door and they put the crates on that. No bending needed.

Can you carry the crate into your kitchen, unload, and return to the driver? If you don't have anything at waist height perhaps the driver could put the crates on top of empty crates from the van? Even in bags you will have to bend to pick it up.

Waitrose do bags for an extra 40p total. Will be 80p total after 1st April.

Can you get some kind of wheeled trolley and ask the delivery person to put each box on top of it so you can wheel it inside and unload it?

The no bags blanket rule is very difficult when you can’t bend and with covid can’t have them Carrying into house. I changed supermarket to Iceland.

I have exactly this issue with Sainsbury’s.

I have a delivery between 9-10 and they frequently arrive before 8.30 and leave unbagged shopping on the floor. I am often not even dressed if they have arrived so early, and I then have to basically kneel on the driveway picking individual vegetables and all sorts of other stuff up in front of their driver, who just stands there.

I hate it and I’m not even sure who to complain to?

Ocado deliver in bags

Newestname001 · 24/03/2021 06:31

My mother has her shopping trolley at the door and the Sainsbury's driver packs her shopping into that so she can wheel it into the kitchen. Bulky, light items (toilet paper, kitchen paper etc) can be left on the floor of your porch if you have one or your hallway floor?

Also, if you have young children and still have a pushchair maybe they could load into that.

Other option is to move to a supermarket which still uses bags. As a PP said above, Waitrose still deliver in bags with a minimal charge. 🌹

I love sainsburys but the no bag rule is ridiculous and I’ve stopped ordering from there because of that. I understand the rationale, but to not have the option to buy them isn’t great. Morrison’s do bags and had a return for a refund scheme which is currently on hold due to covid.
