I believe I'm correct in saying you can work upto 16 hours per week, and still receive job seekers. What happens when you go over those 16 hours?

Taken from the turn2us website -

Income Support or Jobseeker's Allowance
For Income Support (IS) or Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA), you are classed as working full time (and therefore not eligible for the benefit) if you do 16 hours or more paid work per week. Your partner is allowed to do paid work of up to 24 hours per week.

If you are working less than 16 hours per week, and your partner is working less than 24 hours per week, then you may be eligible to claim these benefits but the amount you are entitled to could be affected by any earnings you have.

Thanks for the replies Smile

It's all very confusing. I've just had my 'chat' with my....helper? Guidance bloke? from the job centre. He confused the hell out of me.

I've taken on some agency work, and I've worked 21 hours this week (x3 7 hour days). I would have been financially better off only working 2 days and keeping my jsa this week.
Then I queried what happens if I take on a weeks work with an agency, do I have to sign off and then sign on again. He didn't know the answer Confused

If you did 2 days work one week, the amount that you earned would be deducted from any JSA you were entitled to for that week. You don't get to keep your all wages and the JSA.

@allHilaryBriss I think that's bit I'm having trouble understanding (I don't know why! Blush

Yes but doesn’t your pride feel good for working and earning your money? Surely JSA is for people seeking a job...

AnotherOne4 · 16/03/2021 19:43

@SandysMam - yes it feels good earning money. I've worked over 20+ years, this is the first time in my life I've not been working (due to Covid)
I am seeking a job.....it's just not easy!

Sorry Op, I was in a really shitty mood when I wrote that goady post, didn’t mean to take it out on you. Hope it all goes well.

AnotherOne4 · 16/03/2021 21:37

@SandysMam - it's fine. I don't think I came across in the best light either Wink
