NI contributions

I have looked this up on- line but I'm still confused ( don't judge Grin)
If you have children and get child benefit are NI contributions automatically made on your behalf if you don't earn enough for them to be deducted from your wages, and does this mean you will have paid the minimum 10 qualifying years?
TIA

Yes I believe when your children are under 12 the child benefit qualifies you for national insurance credits.
But I think you need 35 years for a full pension?

Yes, its 35 years for a full pension - I gleaned that much, but 10 years minimum is needed for any pension I think.
Thanks @ThreeFeetTall

Yes but they are class 3 NI contributions.

And you need to make sure the child benefit is paid in your name, not to the child's father.

You can check your NI record on the Government Gateway www.gov.uk/check-national-insurance-record

You can login on www.gov.uk using your NI number & it will show you exactly how much you have per year.
You can also request a state pension forecast & it will inform you of the estimated date & amount you will receive

You need 35 years contributions to receive a full state pension
