Best Credit card

I've never had a credit card - I'm late 40's, full time employment, civil servant, not in any debt with anything, some small savings.

What's the best credit card available? I've just done an eligibility checker and I'm ok to proceed. Tesco card offers a point per £8 spent, M&S Offers cash back for certain spends.

Any tips for finding the best card?

Thank you.

Make sure your card is 0% on spending, look out for any catch like 20 months 0% on spending for purchase made within 60 days etc. Go for a long offer period.

If possible clear your debt each month or pay as much over the minimum as possible. If your sensible with money a credit card is nothing to be scared of.

Thanks! I've seen a few 0% but with a time clause.

Also seen some with 0% if you meet minimum payments every month.

That's the example of what your interest is after your 0% deal ends. You should change your card before the end date so no interest is owed, although you would have a small set up fee to pay.

Basically switch between 0% cards at the end of each deal period. Make sure each cc account is from a different banking group, there is a timeframe (2 years I think?) before you can reapply for a card from the same banking group.

If you think you might want to use it overseas then it’s worth finding one that doesn’t charge a transaction fee for foreign currency. The worst cards charge up to 3% on top of whatever you’re buying, while the best don’t charge anything. More info here:

What do you plan to use it for?

A holiday booking for next year.

Santander is 24 months at 0% with a £3 per month fee. Sounds good!

Are you intending to pay it off gradually or in one hit very quickly? It may be that you don’t need a 0% one if you pay off the full balance every month. Also, check what limit you have. It may not be enough for the holiday. You may get a better limit with a credit card that’s attached to your usual bank.

Thanks @NotDonna . I didn't think of that. I think about £6k is the sum I'll need and I can pay about £150
A month back.
