I’ve found €50. Can I get them changed or pay them into my account for free ?

Sell them on eBay- wait for a £1 listing day and do them on either buy it now or start the auction at the right conversion rate

you usually get a lot more money doing this.

Really, sell on eBay. You have to offer PayPal/managed payments so there's a percentage gone. Then if it needs to be posted you'll need special delivery or it's not covered by Royal Mail.

Take it to the post office and exchange it. There is a fee but as you found it, you're still up.

You will get a fraction of the price you will get on eBay-

I was just wondering if I can pay it into my account for free.
Thanks everyone.

You really won't be

I see currency regularly- you often get way above the exchange rate on eBay. If you choose a £1 listing day it is £1 total fee and any paypal fees are less than the post office or M&s fees.

You might be able to pay them into an account for free or with minimal charges if you have something like a Starling or Monzo account, that offers accounts in different currencies for free. But unlikely for a standard high street bank like Natwest etc.

But, I've just looked on ebay and there's loads of sales of euros for really good prices and people are actually paying for special delivery for the larger amounts.

What's going on here? Why are people paying over the odds for euros? Wouldn't they just get them from the Post Office etc for less if they wanted some? Or is it a money laundering thing? If so, I'm not sure I'd want to be a part of that.

murbblurb · 12/02/2021 10:52

currency exchange is never 'for free'. Even if there isn't an explicit fee, you will lose out on the exchange rate offered. Financial institutions don't work for nothing.

normally it is a case of finding someone going to the eurozone and doing a deal. So for now, stick them in a drawer.

What kind of idiot buys money on eBay?! I'm amazed ebay even allow it, they don't gift cards.
