Working tax credit - moving house

Starlight504 · 08/02/2021 12:07

Does anyone know if a change of address will trigger a change from working tax credit & child tax credit to universal credit.
I don’t receive any housing related benefits of its relevant.
Thanks in advance.

Yes it will

Starlight504 · 08/02/2021 12:11

Thanks I wondered if it would but can’t find any info about it. Do you have a link to the info?

Yes, it will.

Yes

Universal Credit is replacing:

Housing Benefit
income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
Child Tax Credits
Working Tax Credits (WTC)
Income Support
If you’re claiming any of these benefits, you can stay on them for the moment - unless you’ve had a change of circumstances. For example, you might need to claim Universal Credit if you’ve split up with a partner or moved to a different council area.

The plan is for everyone to move on by 2024 anyway so we al have that joy sooner or later.

Thanks - it only says it triggers a change if claiming housing benefit though.
I’m only claiming Wtc & Ctc

Nope it doesn't - am on those and just moved

Starlight504 · 08/02/2021 12:31

Thanks - just managed to get through on the phone. It doesn’t make any difference to Wtc @ ctc

No it doesn't as you are not making a claim for a new benefit. Good that you got the correct advise in the end.

ThatDamnKrampus · 08/02/2021 18:03

Not for a change of address if you aren't claiming HB. If you were to divorce or get into a relationship or you needed to claim HB or Council Tax benefit it would trigger a new claim then it would trigger the switch.

Claiming council tax reduction would not trigger a switch to UC.

No it doesn't. I moved last spring and was in receipt of ctc and wtc and was working full time.

Akire · 09/02/2021 16:02

The Citzens advice page must be wrong then as it says tax credits. Glad you don’t have to move over yet OP

TheLaughingGenome · 09/02/2021 16:08

I think the benefits advice pages need to be a lot more explicit that it's only a change of circumstances IF a form of housing benefit is involved.

I had to drill down into this, and it was a nightmare.

Glad you got some sense in the end, OP.
