Childcare cost advice please!

I'm employed and my husband is self employed.
When I returned to work after having our first child I had £243 a month taken from my salary tax free to go towards childcare. This was the maximum I could do.

Our 2nd baby will now start in September. Is there any system my husband can join which would allow him to do the same? He earns over 100k which seems to screw things childcare wise.

Tax free childcare isn't available if you earn over £100k. Childcare vouchers aren't open for new applicants. Child benefit would have to be paid back in full via tax if you claimed it.

Thanks. No we didnt claim child benefit.

Thanks for confirming what I had thought!

You can still add your second child to your childcare vouchers account, you just don’t get anymore allowance. So when eldest child is too old for care you can carry on using them for younger child.

As your husband earns over £100k you will not be eligible for any childcare help this includes the 30hours once they are 3. You will only get the basic 15.

Forgot to add, you will only be able to add second baby to account if it’s still in use . Sorry did not know age Gap
of children

Does your husband have a Limited company and could you do any work for it? If so then I would talk to the accountant about any ways of reducing your husbands income and increasing your income.

One parent earning £100,000 and the other earning £30,000 means they are not eligible for Tax Free Childcare scheme. If they earned £99,000 and £31,000 then they are eligible.

No there nothing unfortunately because you work hard and contribute loads .

If he’s near 100k it may be worthwhile trying to check if big pension contributions taking it to under 100k works.

Nope, even putting in the max he is still above.
Thanks for your help though
