Signed off from work, will I get sick pay?

I was signed off by my gp for a month yesterday due to anxiety and depression. I work in a large supermarket and do usually get sick pay for any health related absences.

My problem is that I was off ill from mid December 2019 until the middle of March. I had also been absent the previous july/august due to a broken arm. So, it seems that my sick pay had run out in feb/March as my pay was significantly lower. Now I am concerned that I won't be entitled to any sick pay because it ran out last year. I have had no absences since the 18th of March 2020.

Sorry if this is difficult to understand but it's the best way I can explain it. Just wondering if anyone understands how ssp works.

Thanks I advance.

Is it not done on a rolling 12 month period or something? Check with your employer. Do you get SSP or company sick pay?

You would have to check the fine print in your contract. It re-sets to full entitlement each year but it may start at April rather than January.

Noone on here can tell you. You need to check your staff handbook, your contract or your employer's policy in whatever form it takes.

Depends on your contract. That’s a lot of sick leave though, so it may be a very reduced level of sick pay.

It is a lot of sick leave...can you speak to hr? They may refer you to occ health for counselling etc to support with your anxiety.

In the past I have received cap and ssp. It is 3 periods of absence in a year and a half. Unfortunately I suffer from anxiety and depression and mostly I just work through it but I have a lot of contributing factors which I can't change. I have worked in my job for 29 years and have had very few absences until the last year and a half. My gp has increased my medication and I have been referred for online cbt. I hate being absent but my mental health has to take priority.

It might specify x weeks in a rolling 12 month period for csp, in which case you are only back on csp on the anniversary of the end of your previous paid absence. Ssp is only £95 pw and again for a fixed period. Ask your payroll manager about the calculation.
