Child benefit and earning over 50k

We claim child benefit and my husband earns between 50 and 60k so we know we'll have to pay some of it back. When do you fill out the child benefit tax return? Are you able to do it as soon as the new tax year starts as keen to know how much of it we are able to keep

So for tax yr 2019-2020, the self cert was to be completed by October 2020 and the amount owed paid by End of jan 2021.
However Hmrc either need the payment or they can adjust your husbands tax code for the next yr.
Do remember that his pension contributions, any child tax vouchers etc will lower the amount he “earns” and therefore the amount he pays back.
For one child you pay back £100 for each £1000 you earn over 50k
Hmrc website is clear plus you can call them, I found them v helpful

October 2020 to April 2021 is in the April 2020-April 2021 tax year. So follow the advice above but use October 2021 and end of Jan 2022 as your dates.

Also consider whether your husband can up pension payments.
