Tedious but brief tax credit question

DD was born in mid March 07. My mat leave started when she was born. So for the whole of the last tax year I was in full-time work, and mine and DH's combined income was over the tax credit threshold. Since then, I have been on mat leave/part-time earnings, and am well under tax credit threshold. But all the tax credit paper work insists I provide documentation for the last tax year. Can I apply now, and what other proof of income is accepted (apart from P60)?

Thanks!

In this particular instance, it would be easier to give them a call.

I have always found them very good. Explain your current situation, and they should be able to sort you out ASAP. Adjustments can and will be made later.

Even if it's only £10 or £20 a week, it's better than a kick in the fanjo.

As far as I'm aware, you get tax credit for each financial year April to April. As you are now under the threshhold, you should be eligible. I think what you need to do is estimate your earnings this financial year then provide proof when you get your next P60.
Phone and ask.
I'm sure that's what happened to me.
But I'd do so soon, as I seem to remember only been able to claim 3 months in arrears.

thanks - I'll give them a call. the last guy I spoke to didn't seem to know much, but then there's always one, isn't there .

You're right there! There is always one. I think you dropped unlucky.

Any how, I wish you well with your entitlement. As long as you keep them informed of any changes (by phone), they're really quite accommodating.

This happened to us. What we needed to do was to apply using the previous year's figures, then once we were in the system to phone and update them. It's a pain, but it was fine in the end.
