Credit check for job? Shall I not even bother?

I have a job interview for a customer service advisor with sky.
I've read they credit check you
My credit isn't the best.
I have defaults off 4 years ago
No missed payments in years and I have never had a ccj/bankruptcy etc but they defaults will get me won't they?
Shall I just skip the interview?
They've told me they do a criminal record check (which is totally clear) they haven't mentioned a credit check but I'm assuming they will.
Do you think the defaults will be a problem?

Personally I would still do the interview. If criminal record is fine and the defaults were 4 years ago I wouldn’t worry to much. The interview will be good practice/experience even if you don’t get the job. Good luck x

They wont be an issue as long as recent history shows you are sorting it out.

I had defaults on my credit history when I passed a Counter Terrorism Check and employment credit check for work.

What do they see when they check your credit?
Do they see everything?
Looking a Reed they say the check for ccj etc
It's confusing

I’d still do it, it’ll be bankruptcy or insolvency or multiple CCJs they’re worried about. The odd default or one CCJ shouldn’t be a problem.

sseedd · 12/01/2021 12:09

Fingers crossed
It showed I haven't missed any payments in years and no cjj etc
I don't even know if they will do a credit check
All it says is a criminal check
I guess I just try my best and see what happens.
I just hope stupid mistakes in the past doesn't spoil it.
I'm a hard worker and I know i could do well at this job.

They're usually looking for current signs of severe financial distress which could make you more susceptible to stealing/fraud/bribery and so on.

sseedd · 12/01/2021 12:56

@HalfShrunkMoreToGo do you think defaults would prove a problem ?

They were t a problem for me, they were about 3 or 4 yrs old by then, and all payments had been up to date for a while when I was checked.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 12/01/2021 14:14

*weren't

All they can check for are CCJs and bankruptcy. If you haven’t had either of those in the last six years, you’ll be fine.

RickiTarr · 12/01/2021 18:58

CCJs, bankruptcies, IVAs etc are public (court) information. That’s all they can access on this kind of search. The same as a landlord search.

Things like defaults and late payments are in a more privileged category of information. Only you and financial service providers you deal with can see those things.

RickiTarr · 12/01/2021 18:58

Oh sorry @19lottie82 I didn’t read your post before I posted Blush

If all it says is that they do a criminal record check, why are you worrying about a credit check?

Even if they do a credit check, which they won't without telling you about it, it's not an automatic fail. Many people have mistakes in their financial past.

I too passed a counter terrorism check when I had a very poor credit rating (multiple defaults and IVA). I told them about it on the form, and the reasons that it all happened (business failure) and it was fine.
