Self employed to employed tax

My husband is currently self employed through CIS so his tax is taken at source. He has been since June 2020, he has now managed to secure an employed role but I’m not sure what he needs to do from a tax perspective.
I know he will need to do a tax return, but does he have to do that now or wait for the end of the tax year. What can we do to make sure he doesn’t go on emergency tax with the new job?
Also does he need to notify anyone at hmrc now that he is no longer self employed or can he wait for the end of the tax year?

Thank you in advance
