Does anyone know if the DWP are back to fortnightly sign ons and job seeker commitments ie the claimant having to apply for x number of jobs per day?

For Universal credit it will depend on your situation/ age of your youngest child etc. This determines what your work commitments are. Most of it is just phone calls at the moment.

I was on new style jsa September til November and there were no expectations on number of applications, just a phone call once a fortnight with my work coach.

Ok thanks. Just out of interest, my son is facing redundancy and the job market isn't looking promising.

I'm just wondering how hard they are going to be on him.

Reason I ask is because DP was made redundant a few years ago and was entitled to about £73 a week JSA. Given how long and how much he had paid in to the system, he was a bit taken aback by how rude and unreasonable the DWP staff were with him as well as shocked at how out of date the job search tips they gave him were. He's an accountant but they were trying to push him in to jobs like airport check in and production line.

He found a new role, in his field, after 2 months of claiming JSA. Not by taking the work coach's advice either.

It's about £75 now and you are still expected to work search in return for that pittance.

@Babyroobs

He had no issue with work searching. It was that they were trying to push him into completely unsuitable roles or risk having his benefits stopped.

The CV and interview advice was dreadful. I recruit in my role and sometimes I get CVS through and think "oh, poor thing, they've taken jobcentre advice and their cv looks rubbish". The DWP advice actually stops people from getting jobs.
