Estate Protection Trust

Following on from another thread about wills leading to us thinking about a trust.

Are these trusts any good? Do they work? Do they protect property and savings from being taken to fund care fees? Has anyone actually had them work out for them? Or does the local authority find some way to claw back the fees anyway?

I've looked at one just protecting property. As a couple you own your property as tenants in common. You leave your half to your children, but in trust with your partner having a life interest in it. The remaining partner can move. If the remaining partner ends up in a home they cannot take the half that is in trust for the children for care home fees.

We didn't proceed with it as there seemed to be lots of costs involved, both at the time of creating the trust and ongoing.

This is only my opinion from a little reading about it. I too would be interested in more information.

See other thread with same title.

It's a "marketing bollocks". See a STEP or CTA qualified solicitor.
