Tragic

debs61 · 15/02/2021 20:38

I've joined mumsnet today. I have nothing whatsoever to do with MLMs. However, I was led to this thread after watching something about MLMs on TV this morning. All that aside, I cant believe how much time on here is spent trolling others. Name calling and obvious bullying. I'm surprised that its allowed on here. You all need to find something better to do with your time.

We’re not trolling anyone. You, however, are troll hunting.

I wonder how long it takes a monkey to fly from Lanzarote?

I wish I was in Lanzarote....where the flying monkeys live....

debs61 · 15/02/2021 20:56

Too many idiots in one place for me I'm afraid.

BSintolerant · 15/02/2021 21:03

It’s a monkey-see monkey do business!

Isn’t it strange how someone who has nothing to do with MLMs goes searching for MLMs after signing up to Mumsnet today? Liars always give too much unnecessary information in an attempt to look like they’re telling the truth. It’s also funny how all the MLM bots accuse people on these threads of bullying and trolling - we’re merely pointing out what goes on in these culty scams and discussing the lies people tell about MLMs.

The truth hurts, but those who accuse us of trolling etc wouldn’t know what the truth was if it jumped up and bit them.

ketosavedmylife · 15/02/2021 21:12

@debs61 this anti-MLM thread has been going for some years now. First thread started during 2016 and we are now on thread number 64.

That is nearly 64,000 experiences/comments/support from and for people damaged by MLM. Pretty powerful stuff don't you think?

It may give you some comfort that we seem like 'idiots' but we are not. Rather we are people from all walks of life and experience who are united in the pursuit of exposing the insidious, flawed, deeply damaging and devastating MLM business model and all those who are bent on exploiting others for (mostly fruitless) financial gain.

Today's This Morning segment, although very minor, showed a telling understanding that the MLM business model is a scam and to all intents a 'pyramid-shaped' scheme, relying as it does on the RECRUITMENT of downlines who buy the products and funnel commissions up the pyramid, then those downlines recruit and buy the products and funnel commissions up the pyramid et al.

The reps ARE the customers, buying to make up monthly quotas if they cannot sell to their family/friends/colleagues etc.

This is why the business model is flawed for the vast majority 99%+ of reps. Only those at the peak stand to make a livable income of those below them. Those below them are slaves bearing all the costs and having absolutely NO power in their so-called business (the terms and conditions are shocking). They can be canned at a moments notice with no recourse to appeal.

Spongebobette · 15/02/2021 21:26

Hi @debs61 and welcome to the thread

What would you like to know about MLMs that you haven’t already learned in the posts above?

If, as you say, you know nothing about MLMs I’m sure you must have a lot of questions! The discussion on This Morning was quite short and there’s lots more we could share with you - just ask!

imabothunter · 15/02/2021 21:30

@deb61 - you must be close to some of the bots that regularly turn up in conversations on here as you came into this thread with your guns blazing?
Maybe you are one of those that come up in conversation?

Spongebobette · 15/02/2021 22:13

It would be great if, in fact, you DID know about MLMs and perhaps were one of the bots mentioned on here - we’d all love to hear your side of the story and any facts that you can bring to the discussion @debs61

YouokHun · 16/02/2021 00:23

@debs61 as you say you know nothing about/have nothing to do with MLMs it’s very sensible of you to start here with the arguments against MLM (made by people who have observed the industry for many years and don’t like the damage it’s causing, but have no vested interest in it) as opposed to those who are pro-MLM who tend to be promoting a false picture based in magical thinking or downright lies and who do have much to gain from convincing people that MLM is above board. I know which side of the argument I’d trust to be impartial.

We point out the inconsistencies and talk about the lies MLM uplines are telling their victims and I can guarantee no one here has ever systematically tricked someone vulnerable into a “business opportunity” she could ill afford without a care for the consequences for that person, as long as they line their own pockets

Hunbot · 16/02/2021 11:33

Ooh - a juice plus hun (I think it is iron bot) has got upset with alice beer spilling some home truths on this morning

thetemptationofchocolate · 16/02/2021 12:02

It's interesting that Debs accuses us here of obvious bullying.
I've been in an MLM in the past and it's the only time in my life that I've been bullied to the point of losing my own personality for a while. And who was doing the bullying you may ask? Well that would be the people 'up the line' from me in the MLM.
MLMs are built on bullying and brainwashing. It's how the business model works. I didn't like it and I certainly wouldn't be doing it here. In fact, it was reading these threads that has opened my eyes to the fact that it was never my fault that I didn't succeed at MLM. When I first came here I still thought that I was unsuccessful because of something I'd done. I am very grateful for these threads, for giving me back my self-esteem.

Spongebobette · 16/02/2021 12:17

I will continue to point out the ridiculousness of the bots' claims

Health and wellness business owners?

Such as one posting about 'starting the day right' with a photo of the aloe gloop and 3 different supplements she takes in the morning

Behind which are 2 boxes of sugary cereal
🙄

Hunbot · 16/02/2021 13:27

So tempted to point out to iron bots followers that if the business is such a good opportunity then why did she go insolvent with it. If you earn so much money then maybe she wouldn't have gone insolvent owing 71k. Mlm - a business so good it makes you bankrupt hun

It's very much smoke and mirrors for a lot of them, that hide behind the car, rented houses, fake watches, bags and rent-a-dress crowd. Great if you can Air BnB an apartment to pretend it's your country home - at some point you will get caught out!
Some with their ever present healthy life style regime, covered by clever camera angles, step ladders and well place products hiding the gut shots...

Yes @imabothunter it’s perfectly possible to construct a completely fictitious life isn’t it? A check-in here and there standing on the pavement in the vicinity of a fashionable restaurant or club, a stock photo of a car, a shot relaxing in someone else’s Air BnB, a downloaded picture of some Louboutin heels. I was just reading a TLC article about a search of photos on the web throwing up stock photos that huns have used to imply success with MLM. It’s an false income claim by the back door. And the ever longer step ladder is a false health claim by the back door.

yoopeak · 16/02/2021 17:33

ooooooooo got my first post deleted have I made it now

Spongebobette · 16/02/2021 18:09

Re insolvency - I am shocked that Forever Living, which presents itself as a reputable, ethical company is happy to put on stage ‘business owners’ whose businesses are insolvent, even including one who owes 184k to creditors and is in breach of an agreement to pay a monthly amount. This person, among others, is showcased as a success story.

If people with enormous directors’ loans that they cannot repay and therefore owe huge amounts of tax, people whose company accounts show they have made no profit for years, and people whose businesses have been struck off are the successful ones, where does that leave the rest?

Hunbot · 16/02/2021 18:23

Someone who is currently insolvent is ranting at this morning on their facebook for trying to dissuade mums from the business opportunity.
