Some advice needed on Jobsharing, if one of the jobsharers is pregnant. Will the other jobshare partner be expected to cover her ?

My job share partner is pregnant and we are all very happy for her.
But I just want to know where I stand when she leaves.

When I applied for the jobshare I was given it on a one year trial. (I've been at my school for years) and my jobshare partner just has a yearly contract.

Will the school have to find cover for her, or will I be expected to take over the class full time?

Any help greatfully received.

No, they shouldn't be - although they ought to be asked if they want the hours though.

Not sure if your trial period bit will affect this.

Contact the union. My experience of dealing with my union was always really good.

I'm a jobshare teacher (work 0.6): When I was pregnant my jobshare was offered the hours and she took them for the first half term but then they got a maternity cover in. (I went into labour at 29 weeks and wasn't even on maternity leave at that point!!)

My job share partner starts maternity leave on Monday. I was given options of movibg down a year group and sharing class with supply teacher, or covering hour and being payed supply for the extra days.
I am doing the extra days

Panicpants your contract or job share policy should say what happens in the event of one job share partner leaving. Usual things said might be - other partner offered extra hours, all reasonable attempts made to recruit a replacement, other partner being redeployed to an alternative post, if that's not possible, and various options, with termination of employment being an absolute last resort when all options have been exhausted.

As I say, you should have something in writing outlining what happens in this eventuality though.

I have not had a new contract. All I have is my original contract from when I first started years ago.

It's not looking good is it? It took me 2 years for them to let me go part time!

Oh dear. Not even a contract change letter or anything about the new arrangements??

How long has this arrangement been in place? And is there no job share policy or flexible working policy or anything which has any information?

get some union advice pronto
but the fact that this arrangement is in situ means that all parties apparently accept it, and as such i imagine a any changes to your terms and conditions would need negotiated.

my experience of other people job share is both participants are responsible for their individual hours etc and one does not need to go part time if other leaves etc - nor should u be pressured to do so

hope this all resolves

No nothing at all. The arrangement has been in place since September. I think I'll phone my union just to see where I stand.
