Peugeot 5 year cover plan - Is it worth it or not?

Buying a 2nd hand Peugeot from dealer, when took it out on test drive they showed me a video for a 5 year service plan. No price given, can't seem to find info online but as a 'special deal' they will offer it at £100 per year.

Has anyone got this, is it worth it? Or do yo work at Peugeot and can recommend it or recommend to avoid it?

You need to check what you are buying. Your title implies an extended warranty, but your post talks about a service plan. The dealer will probably happily sell you both.

Warranties can provide protection against big unexpected bills, but there are lots of exclusions so you're not protecting yourself against all big bills, just the ones covered by the policy.

A service plan pays for the scheduled service as you go along, rather than when they become due. You'd have to look at the mileage you're going to do and what services will be due in that time and what they will cost.

I have no idea whether these are good value or not. They might be, because they tie you to using the dealer for servicing, instead of going elsewhere, where it might be cheaper. But they will be hoping that you'll also get your MOT, tyres, etc done with them too, which could work out more expensive.

But I'd never buy a second hand Peugeot or any other French car anyway due to poor reliability records.

We bought a 3 year old 2nd hand Peugeot from big name national dealer last year, at 27000 miles it has had shock absorber failure and the console no longer works properly. Peugeot say the default position is that it is the customers fault as servicing has been done via dealer and then our local indy garage.

I had a quite new, but out of warranty Peugeot HDI, with all the gizmos you could wish for. It was the only time in 40 years of driving that I broke down, miles from home. It was one of the fuel injectors. The RAC rescue chap ‘said never mind, there’s 3 more to fail’ and was surprised at the fault on such a new car.
I part exchanged it to go back to trusty VW.

They have given you a price though? £100 a year. The “special deal” is just car sales bullshit, obviously.
No-one here can say whether it’s a good deal or not, as you’ve said nothing about what it includes.

If it’s just an extended warranty, I guarantee you can get the same, for less, online. Not because I know what a warranty costs - but because I know that a car dealership is never going to be the cheapest place. Especially not one that talks the usual nonsense about “special offers”.

If it’s a service plan and that’s a full annual service for £100, well - I doubt it.
