that the money i got when we split in 2005 was from a property sale. The property was sold in 2001, fgs, and when we split in 2005, I sorted out all our paperwork. I have no idea where the paperwork is, the statement of completion, and this is what they are asking for. I think i threw the lot out, as I was so sad and wanted no reminders. Plus it was in 2001 that we sold our property.

I have texted ex as we need to talk, plus i think the woman as the insolvency place is suspicious, cos ex hadnt told me any of this, well why should he, but I am now being asked questions.

oh, bit more info, I havent got that money anymore and am on benefits. The woman said this she go in my favour, but ffs surely i dont have to owe any of his debt???

I think the insolvency people want to make sure that the property was sold for a fair market value and that the amount you received was your share and not money which your ex could have used to pay off his debts.

You do not owe any of his debt, but the insolvency service have to ensure that they can trace all of his assets and money and that is why they are asking these questions.

I would just write back and explain that the property was sold and the proceeds divided equally between you when you separated in 2005. You no longer have any of the proceeds and are currently in receipt of benefits. There is nothing further you can help them with so do not expect to receive any further communications from them on this point.

HI I have just done that, I just don't know why they are asking me, and not him for proof of the completion details. They need to ask HIM if I got my fair share, and get the proof of it off him.

thanks for replying.

Maybe he has told them, but people in debt can often lie and try to hide assets, etc. Perhaps she's asking you to see if your version of events tallies with his.

I see, sorry if i sound a bit naieve (sp), but I am just sick of him altogether, with his crap and his lies, then this, and he doesnt even have the brains to contact me about it, in case they speak to me, to tell me whats been said. I saw him a week ago, and he said nothing!!

I just wish he would disappear, I am so fed up of his crap.

Same as Freckle, they want to see that the money you received was from the sale and that he wasn't trying to hide assets.

I would provide the insolvency practitioner with the name and address of the solicitor who dealt with the conveyancing and they can contact them directly. They can provide the sale of completion documents etc

He is the one who is bankrupt and not you, they will not come after you for any money at all. Even if you had oodles in the bank.
