I love a good podcast and wondered if anyone has recommendations podcasts to help me with frugal tips and motivation to save more.

We are looking to save more next year to prepare for a likely to have a drop in income. We've already done all the obvious things, shopping in Aldi, switching utilities, budgeting for annual costs etc but it's not easy with 4 kids, including 2 teens. So I'm looking for even more ideas on budget meals tips etc.

Not exactly frugal living per se but I got into the minimalists podcast after watching the documentary on Netflix and it really was quite a turning point for me. My whole spending habit has changed and the amounts of savings I have now would have seemed unattainable a few years ago. Really has altered my mind set

What's the documentary called?

Mycircusmymonkey · 29/11/2020 22:06

It’s just called Minimalism I think

Meaningful Money with Pete Matthew. There's a lot about pensions, savings and investments but some good common sense advice about general finances too.

Dave Ramsey is in my opinion the most inspiring, few actual tips though. I liked radical personal finance too, that one has many good practical tips. Choose FI has some interesting interviews as well.

HipHipHooray7 · 30/11/2020 08:48

I would also say choose FI, the mad fiantist, bigger pockets money or find your freedom. And if you are looking for an inspiring documentary- Playing with FIRE: The Documentary
Happy saving! Smile

@Mycircusmymonkey 🤣. Clues in the name! Thanks for that I'll give it a watch.

Mycircusmymonkey · 30/11/2020 12:23

Well I suppose as minimalists they couldn't go with anything too excessive now!

WaltzForDebbie · 30/11/2020 14:03

Thanks everyone. Off to check them out. Smile

I'd add the HBO documentary on Warren Buffet (also on youtube) and the Happy documentary on Netflix. Not strictly about frugality but linked to the overall message: buying stuff doesn't make you happy :)

Come January I find a no spending month really helpful. it resets the mindset for 31 days to not spend money.

Spending is allowed for food and bills, petrol. Everything else needs to wait.

So no impulse jeans in the sale, coffee in Starbucks or lunch out. It resets as if you really want or need something you'll wait till February to buy it - but often its just not needed

I find February/March I often don't spend much either, so it really helps to break the habit of nonsense spending for the sake of it.

what I do is still have a life and meet friends, do free stuff and take coffee with me, walking cycling, museums, parks, free youtube lessons - from French to abs work out.

with life changing so much this last year January is going to be very different for me and already im planning some good 5 mile walks in new places, baking videos lined up
