Workplace Pension - Is Eligibility based on your contracted hours or Usual hours?

I'm asking this question as for a while I was under the threshold to be auto enrolled into the workplace pension scheme.
I have since had a pay rise at the beginning of the year which made me eligible. I'm currently on SSP and before that was furloughed. Because of this I'm not really in a position to ask my employer direct and on logging in to the portal of the provider they use, I can see no contributions have been made since 2017. This is puzzling as I was told verbally after asking when the scheme came in that I wasn't eligible. If anyone can advise I'd greatly appreciate it -TIA.

Importantly I meant to say that at the time the workplace pension came in (and afterwards) I usually worked overtime which took me over the threshold.

It's based on what you actually earn in each tax year. If you earned over £10k in any tax year you should have been autoenrolled.

If you will earn over £6.5k this tax year (including SSP, I think), you can ask to be enrolled and your employer must let you, but they don't have to offer it.

Thanks @ZadieZadie

So you're saying it should go on my P60 as opposed to my contract?
Since the scheme came in I have never earned below £10k.

Yup. I'd talk to payroll.

Thank you @ZadieZadie

I'm currently on sick leave and waiting to hear back on
a request to wfh and haven't... so was thinking I'll contact the pension provider.

Been looking at my finances very closely due to my current situation.

I've just come from an online chat with the pension provider and they informed me that I was auto enrolled in 2017 but I'm now marked as a leaver. They couldn't tell me when I was marked as a leaver.

They also confirmed that in their scheme they look at your usual salary and not just the contracted hours as you said @ZadieZadie.

It's a bit of an awkward situ as I'm currently of sick but the pension provider gave me the contact details for the Pensions Regulator!
