I've had a letter from DWP saying I owe them money. There is no explanation of when and the letter says call within two weeks or debt collectors will be coming.
I've immediately tried to call, three times the automated voice has taken my details after a long wait and three times it cuts me off. I've looked online and a lot of people are saying the same but nobody seems to know what to do. Has anyone here had similar?

I was in a very similar situation six years ago OP. I paid back my 50% of the overpayment on the joint claim (they will try to get you for the whole thing, but stand firm, you’re only legally on the hook for half) a few pounds a week. I’m now happy, single, and debt free. Good luck! Flowers

You’ll need to speak to them, ask what period it covers, how much it is and why it occurred. If you disagree you can ask for a reconsideration. If you agree you owe it you can ask to make an arrangement for a small amount each week/month whatever.

Just to update, I overreacted through fear and the letter was sent in error.
The amount was for the advance you can get when you apply so I was already paying it back.
She said lots of these letters have gone out
I'm so relieved but feel bad for others worrying that may not know

Pleased for you but wow, that really is appalling.

Makes you wonder how many were sent out, given the recent rise in US claims and advances.
