I work and earn a decent wage (about £1200 after tax) but feel like each month I'm just scrapping by. I do get some tax credits and child benefit. I have been trying to take control of all the debts and credit cards I have along with regular bills and childcare is alot (I've got three kids) and I just feel like I'm constantly just getting by which is great I'm able to but I have zero savings if anything were to go wrong I wouldn't be able to even fix it like my car for example.

I have tried to look at the £10 a day thread but I just don't understand it at all can anyone help me with some good ways to start earning a little extra?

@Marie898 The £10 a day thread has been going for quite a while so you may need to go find the first one and start from there. Normally the first post has a bunch of links to sites that provide ways of making extra money.

Marie898 · 18/11/2020 16:23

Thank you for your reply. I did try start at the first page but I got so overwhelmed I was hoping for a little advice on maybe two or three I can start with as I have no idea where to begin or what I'm even looking at 😢

Come join the thread. It's quite a friendly bunch. Things are quiet at the moment but I think a good place to start with is prolific which does studies from Universities etc.

Its all different survey sites and things to sign up to, but realistically if you want to earn £10 a day you would have to put a huge amount of time in, so not really worth it unless you have lots of time on your hands and can't pick up extra work.

BarbaraofSeville · 19/11/2020 07:50

A lot of the old links on the £10 a day thread will probably be out of date, because they will have linked to short term offers, but will be helpful for ideas.

Keeping working on reducing debts and ensuring you don't take on any more is the best long term thing to be honest.

So, don't buy a car on lease or credit. If you have a phone on a contract, once the contract ends, don't upgrade your phone but keep the old one and move to sim only. Don't buy things on credit, but avoid buying or if you really must, then look to buy second hand and without credit.

It is likely that a decent chunk of your monthly money is going on stuff you owe from the past. If you can reduce and get rid of that and not replace it, your monthly money will go much further. But sorting this isn't a quick fix. Cut shopping bills by meal planning and buying a cheaper range of groceries, move your utilities to a cheaper supplier, don't have a subscription to Netflix, Amazon prime etc. Don't buy a sofa on a credit plan or any other furniture or homeware.....make what you've got last and if you absolutley need soeming, buy a sofa for £50 on eBay or from a furniture recycling place instead of £5000 DFS with extra credit on top. Don't buy takeaway more than once a month at the very most. Recognise these things are luxuries even though they can start to feel like normal life. Often little things can make a big difference.

You can probably save £10 easier than you can earn it. But don't think there are quick fixes whereby you can boost your income fast and suddenly be much richer. Improving your position will take time realistically and its about amending your outgoings so that long term your position improves. It takes dedication and a bit of sacrifice and not just doing it for 3 weeks and then feeling a bit miserable and splurging on a big treat which blows the gains made. Best of luck.

Luckily time is what I have! I only work 16hrs on the weekend so am free during the week. I'm not able to do over time in my job it's not allowed and I didn't want to have an out and out second job as I like spending time with the girls. I will have a look at prolific and see if its worth it for me. Thank you

The best places for a tenner a day are Appen, Crisp and Prolific.
Appen and Crisp have wait lists, but are very much worth it. I make about £250 a month from Appen and about £100 from Crisp.
I've been doing Prolific for about 2 years and have about £60 in total Grin

TheSilentStars · 21/11/2020 06:42

Go to the very first thread and read that one, them come and join us on the monthly one, everyone is very helpful.
I waited almost a year to be added to Crisp and about 8 months for Appen but once you're in, you get more. Appen you need to apply for everything you can. Not all of the jobs will materialize.

DianaT1969 · 21/11/2020 06:46

As you are free during the week, there's a lot of demand for wraparound childcare. Taking children to school and picking up. That would make £10 per day and fit in with your lifestyle.

LunaLula83 · 21/11/2020 06:46

Waste of time. I signed up to lots of sites, answered lots of questions for research which i was supposed to be paid for only to be told i was not suitable. Then they only pay out if you've made a certain amout of money

Wolfff · 21/11/2020 06:56

Another one here from the £10 a day thread. It’s not just survey sites. I work an extra 10 -15 hours a week, sometimes more and earn an average of £500 per month. Most of that is from Appen Connect which pays $14 an hour. I would suggest signing up to Appen Connect and Crisp Thinking and maybe the better paid survey sites. Intellizoom and Prolific.

I was a complete novice when I joined it’s not difficult.

You pay tax under SA (due the Jan after the end of the tax year).
