I can't believe how this is being targeted at mums

oh please no no no no

"I can pay weekly so my finances don't get into a mess"

A single mum of 3 I work with got her washing machine from them. She has a terrible credit history and so had no choice. She is on minimum wage too

wordgirl · 16/10/2007 13:25

It's despicable isn't it? Did I imagine it or was Carol Vorderman in their advertising campaign? I don't know how they sleep at night really.

tiredemma · 16/10/2007 13:26

yes, I have afamily member who did it- unfortuantly it targets those who cannot get credit elsewhere.

goingfor3 · 16/10/2007 13:27

It really is for the desperate who then spiral deeper and deeper into debt

Iklboo · 16/10/2007 13:28

We were looking at this very briefly for a Nintendo Wii. It worked out we'd have paid almost 3 times the normal price for it by the time the payments were up. So thanks, but no thanks!

CappuScreamO · 16/10/2007 13:29

my mum would make me save up

a colleague of mine just couldn't understand that if you paid interest on your credit card, it meant things cost more

and she was perfectly intelligent

There is a saying - It costs more to be poor

It's very true.

CappuScreamO · 16/10/2007 13:29

THREE TIMES?

oh good grief

i used to work for a Very Well Known credi card company

tis sad

notnowbernard · 16/10/2007 13:31

They target the poor/minimum wage/poor credit history folk.

Shops are always situated in 'poorer' areas.

Polly Toynbee writes about places like this in her book 'Hard Work'. I recommend it!

Iklboo · 16/10/2007 13:32

Total payable - 52 weeks at £9.99 (including optional service cover) £519.48

CappuScreamO · 16/10/2007 13:33

iklboo what's that for?

kerrykatona · 16/10/2007 21:33

its shocking how they can get away with it.

my friend could only get a new car through yes car credit, i more or less begged her not to but she went ahead and done it, now 4 years on she is still paying of a 8 year old car at £160 a month.

78Annie · 16/10/2007 21:49

I got offered a credit card at 177% APR. Strangely, I didn't take them up on the offer! I'd rather starve.

CappuScreamO · 16/10/2007 22:19

I have a friend who sold their car when they finally realised how much it was going to cost to pay the loan off

again, a perfectly clever woman

CappuScreamO · 16/10/2007 22:20

177%???

god I had read that as 17.7 to start with and that is bad enough
