I went from living at home with parents to living with my husband for 30 years. After a bad breakup I'm hoping to buy a flat outright.
But obviously I need to crunch numbers. Is there anything I'm missing

Do I need building ins? Presume so

Service charge and ground rent

Your buildings insurance will be part of the service charge.

Water & sewage costs

Home care kind of cover got the heating. hot water and plumbing.

An emergency fund for when things break / need replacing

Do you have access to the account that paid for theses sorts of things? If so, Have a look back at the last few years

What about travel costs ? Will you drive a car?

Is a flat the best option? Possibly less on costs with a small house?

ElGuardiandenoche · 30/10/2020 19:12

If you put your details into a SoA calculator it will show you the sort of things you need to think about.

If you can, I would always go for a small house over a flat. Service charges /maintenance can be major issues.

I also wouldn’t get things like a boiler cover as they’re usually a rip-off. You just need to have savings to cover unexpected repairs or redundancy etc.
