Hi all I’m new here ; single mum now redundant ; first full claim ( I have two kids ) for universal credit ( I have mortgaged house ) will be £930 a month - to pay mortgage food petrol and utility bills - now im being asked what I earnt in the six months previously to my original claim when it started in February - when I was employed - why would they do this ? I’m terrified they will somehow lower the payment I can’t even afford utility bills on that amount as it is ! I have no savings left after furloughed pay either .

This question is to see if you are exempt from the benefit cap. If you have worked and earned enough during that period you would be exempt from the cap but to be honest your total Uc amount is nowhere near the cap anyway so I wouldn't worry. You still need to give them the details they ask for though.

It will not lower your Uc amount so please don't worry about that.

Consider getting a mortgage payment holiday www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk/en/articles/mortgage-payment-holidays

Thank you ; I’ve had my mortgage payment holiday and sadly it can’t be extended ; I’m finding universal credit is a lot lower than the previous system ;
