Remortgaging when due to go on maternity leave

Hi All,

Our mortgage is due renewal in April when I am due to go on may leave with DC2. Would we be best to start looking for another deal now and do I need to tell them that I will be going on maternity?

We have a mortage advisor who is great but not sure if I have to tell her we are pregnant. (We have saving to cover pay gap and I will definitely be returning to work).

Thanks in advance!

I doubt you can reserve a new deal this early.

I would tell about maternity when you get to applying. Any expected decreases in income will likely be one of the questions you’re asked and you can’t lie.

We remortgaged when I was on Mat leave. It was fine.

Use a good broker. I did the same with London and Country and they told me which would be more accepting

Hi OP, similar situation to you - baby is due end of March and renewal is due in March.. I've already got the ball rolling - apparently you can arrange up to 6 months in advance. We have gone through money supermarket / fluent mortgages. Also the rates are really good at the moment from what I've seen! Smile

@LittleBearPad thanks for the reassurance, I was hoping it would be a don't ask won't tell thing, I would never lie!

@TakeMeToYourLiar absolutely a good broker is key we have one we have used for our first mortage and then a remortgage with a new purchase who has been great so I'm sure she will help. Just wasn't sure if lenders have an issue with it. Thanks!

@bibs124 thanks that's good to hear, will give our broker a call then! I don't want the hassle when I'm heavy and grumpy!

We applied for a mortgage when I was on maternity leave and I was quite surprised that they used my normal pay when doing their calculations. I was planning to go back part time, but didn't tell them that as it hadn't been confirmed and we were happy that we could afford the repayments. Things may we'll be different now though, as that was a few years ago. Unfortunately the house we were buying fell through and we still haven't ended up moving due to other circumstances.
