Do we change credit card just before fixing mortgage

So we have some credit cards that are no longer on interest free. We're due to fix our mortgage at the end of the month and my husband doesn't have the best credit score. Is it better to pay the extra interest now and fix our mortgage/ get a better deal. or do we see if we can change the credit cards to interest free before doing that?! Just wondering which would work out better due to credit score

Just a thought but could you consolidate your credit cards onto the mortgage as long as you cut them up and don't use again

When you say youre due to fix your mortgage at the end of the month, do you mean your current fixed rate is ending? Are you fixing with the same provider? If so can you fix now, and then swap the credit cards?

Dazedandconfused10 · 11/10/2020 08:35

@Kissmycousinkate that would turn unsecured debt into secured debt. Not really ideal.

@Palavah yeah our current rate is ending, we are hoping to look through other companies to see if any other rate is better?!

It takes time to switch so if your fixed rate is ending at the end of this month you will end up paying SVR/follow-on rate for at least a month. Depending on the new deal you may not be better off switching at this stage.
Have you checked on a comparison site to see what rate you could get?
What is your current lender offering you?
