Pensions

I've been a civil servant for 10 years and my pension, when I retire in 13-17 years time, I can only describe as adequate. Before retraining, I worked for 2 different pharmaceutical companies but I only have pension details of 1. I am unsure about the other and I was with that company for at least 3 years. Before that, I worked briefly as a Teaching Assistant, and prior to that, I spent time in Ireland working for a charity for approximately 2 years. So, a sketchy and unsettled career before settling.

Now that I've had my pension projections, I'm keen to find out what other pots I may (or may not) have paid into over the last 20 years. How do I find out about all of this?

I found this podcast very helpful on pensions. As I recall he has a set of suggestions about how to establish what you've got in other pensions - in essence if I remember right you need to go through your paperwork (if you've got any) and then fill in the gaps by contacting previous employers. Well worth a listen. Good luck.

I am sure other people will also signpost you:

Try www.ageuk.org.uk/information-advice/money-legal/pensions/tracing-old-pensions/#

Also (I think linked to by the above), www.gov.uk/find-pension-contact-details, the (government) Pension Tracing Service.

Perhaps also get help from Citizens Advice, www.citizensadvice.org.uk/debt-and-money/pensions/nearing-retirement/preparing-your-finances-for-retirement/

Good luck.

Really grateful, both.

Thank you.
