Home insurance panic

Hi, my home insurance is due to be renewed tomorrow. They tried to take payment on Friday but the card I'd used before had been cancelled as I'd changed my name after marriage. I have also sold this property. I am supposed to be* handing over the keys on Friday but the buyer's lender is wanting another survey done. We have got ourselves a rental property in the meantime.

Anyway, I told the person at the home insurance providers that we're moving and handing the keys over on Friday so I'd need temporary insurance. They said that they don't do that. So I'd been looking online but it seems that insurance for under a month isn't a thing.

So I'm panicking now because I'm meant to have insurance for my mortgage. Can I reinstate the cancelled insurance (would have to pay full whack I'm assuming for what might only be a couple of weeks?!) or can I just sort out a policy with someone else at this late time?

*I'd already done a similar post about this subject but now I'm starting to panic a bit.

Thanks

Sometimes you can reinstate sometimes you can't. It depends on the underwriter.
The only way to find out is to call them

But yes you can always take one out elsewhere

Or a new one with the ones you were insured with if they can't reinstate

It might cost you but if you're in a panic take it out for a year as normal then cancel it when you don't need it.

Can you not just renew it with your existing provider as am sure they must offer a 14 day cooling off period that would hopefully cover and if you cancel within the 14 days you should only have to pay for the period you have had the cover for and get a refund for the rest that is providing you haven't made a claim in the short period of time

Hey, I managed to get it sorted through the same insurance. I'll be refunded if it's under 2 weeks later that I cancel. Thanks everyone!
