We have some premium bonds from years ago and haven’t added any more as we now do everything in joint names due to our ages. I have never bought any on line and yet the above email is addressed to me.
It is saying that after the 20th December any wins will no longer be sent by cheque but they will require our bank details to pay any wins out. Has anyone else had a letter like this. It certainly looks right but cannot understand how they had my email. Am suspicious of anyone who requires bank details so asking on here if anyone knows anything or how my email could be associated with bonds bought decades ago.

Why don't you call and ask them? Also they do pay into your bank directly, I work in a bank and see it all the time, people are always confused about what it is.

TheQueef · 18/09/2020 09:17

Don't click the email.
Call them. (Google number don't use any numbers from email.

HerBigChance · 18/09/2020 09:18

I agree - call them.

I read yesterday that they are stopping cheque payments of smaller PB wins, so if it's genuine it'll be to do with that.

JamieLeeCurtains · 18/09/2020 09:20

I would have thought the safest thing to is to go to the NSI secure website and set up your own online account, with two-step verification, and instruct NSI (using this secure account) how to pay prizes into your bank account.

Then you can bypass the email, iyswim.

But I actually thought NSI had required this ages ago! I know I had to do it.

HappydaysArehere · 18/09/2020 09:21

Thank you will look their contact number up. Can understand them paying directly into bank if buying online but what of the thousands of elderly people who don’t have wi fi access? It was the fact that they have my email address which is odd.

bruffin · 18/09/2020 09:23

Right click on the email address and hit properties or hover over it and you should be able to see the real email address

Itsokthanks · 18/09/2020 09:23

Why don't you just check it's the genuine email address or ring them? Doesn't sound particularly dodgy to me.

Houseplantmad · 18/09/2020 09:33

It's true, no more cheques from December but, as others have said, call them to put your mind at rest.

Heyahun · 18/09/2020 09:52

Giving a bank account Humber and sort code to pay into doesn’t give anyone access to your bank account - they aren’t asking you to set up a direct debit or something- it’s probably fine. But yeah give them a call for sure first to confirm

Thewhalewhisperer · 18/09/2020 09:53

I also recieved this email and I think it is legit.

no legitimate company will email you and ask you to click a link to fill in bank details. They may have seen this announcement and trying it on.

bruffin · 18/09/2020 10:50

I had a scam this morning re my driving license, definitely a scam but when you look at the email address by hovering over it, it was nothing to do with the DLA. They wanted me to click a link and fill in all my personal details. DH had something similar about renew his car tax, was definitely a scam.

ceeveebee · 18/09/2020 10:53

I got an email but there were no links so I assume I need to log in and provide my details that way? Here’s what I got:

Changes to your customer agreement

Your Premium Bonds customer agreement is changing on 22 November 2020. This will apply to any Premium Bonds accounts that you hold, or manage on behalf of someone else.

How we pay your prizes
From December 2020, we’re stopping prize payments by warrant (like a cheque). We’ll be doing this in phases, so by March 2021 we’ll no longer send any prizes through the post. This means if you currently get prizes by post, you’ll need to let us know your bank details to carry on receiving any prizes you win.

Don't worry, we'll hold on to any prizes you win after we've stopped sending cheques, and we'll pay them to you as soon as we have your bank details.

You can see the updated customer agreement on our website from 22 November 2020.

Kind regards,

Andreana Carrigan

If it turns out to be a scam send a copy of the email to

[email protected]

FourDecades · 19/09/2020 05:57

As other's have said, set up an NS&I online account. My DC have investments that once they reach their time limit pay out. These go into my bank account or l can ask for a cheque

Margo34 · 20/09/2020 00:21

It's stated clearly on their website:

But it doesnt mean that OPs email is safe. This is the type of thing scammers grab onto. OP doesnt say if there is a link to fill in or not.

Margo34 · 20/09/2020 12:39

@bruffin I was merely signposting the OP to the NSANDI website which says OP will at some point legitimately need to provide NSANDI their bank details for their premium bonds.

Going via the website is far safer directly, wouldn't you agree?

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/09/2020 12:43

I had the email too addresses to me by name. I don't think it's a scam as there was no link. You can contact them via their website. I have all my winnings in the form of new Premium Bonds anyway so don't need to do anything for a while.

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/09/2020 12:43
