I've just started mat leave with DC due in 4 weeks. Like lots of people during this time, we've suffered financially. Dh was made redundant in june but has managed to get a job fairly quickly, which is great.
The boiler broke leaving us option but to get a new one. I had some savings and DH redundancy pay (which was going to be for mat leave but hey ho!) The bill is £2500 and we've been given 2 months to pay it. I've got £1500 from savings and redundancy, just £1000 to find.
So far, I have reduced the food bill by £50 a month as luckily, dh gets a discount in a certain store so that takes the total down to £950.
I applied for marriage allowance since dh earns under the threshold and asked them to check in case of a back pay. I'm not sure how the payment works but it could be an extra 200 if it works out.
I closed an old post office account which had 200 in it.
I've asked ds nursery to change him from year round to term time but there is a waiting list. I would prefer for him to stay in nursery as he loves it. I already do tax free childcare and his 3year funding will be due shortly.
I've decided to return to work earlier than anticipated and DH will take on a sahd role as his job is part time, which will help in the long run.
I've Ebayed some nice clothes, shoes and jewellery that I no longer wear. That made around £100. I've asked dh to do the same with his old computer stuff (old phones/laptop). So that may fetch a bit more.
I dont think I will have the whole amount to pay for the boiler by the time the bill is due but I have a 0% credit card to pay for the rest.
I'm really proud of myself that I've managed to get this far. Does anyone have any ideas for how else I can cut spending?
