I have NC for this.
I am about to start a job in the public sector, I am planning on paying into my pension.
For the last few years I have been unemployed and claiming benefits, before that I lived in a different council area, while living in that area I paid into a pension in the public sector (for the same job I’ll be doing now)
How do I go about transferring my pension? Can that even be done? Or do I just wait till retirement age and claim them separately?
Sorry I sound a bit dim but I have no idea when it comes to things like this, which is very naive of me I know but would like to educate myself now so that I can pay in a decent amount now before it’s too late (I’m in my 30s)
TIA Smile

when you get the pension stuff through from your new job there will be something asking about previous pension rights. Fill that in telling them about your previous pension benefits and that you want to investigate transferring, and they will then contact you with your transfer options. You can then decide whether a transfer is the right thing for you or whether you should leave them separate.

Thank you Chessie will they require any more information other than my time and place of employment? (I don’t have any paperwork regarding this previous pension aside from my payslips)

That should be enough but you will need to check with them.
