Eat out to help out food bill help

We used the eat out to help out scheme tonight at a local Indian restaurant. 10 altogether, 6 adults and 4 kids (we’re all in a family bubble)
We’ve used it a few times and it’s always been simple. We get the bill at the restaurant has just taken 50% off.
Tonight I got the bill and before discount the bill was £185. No service charge or alcohol.
So I thought we would get charged £92.50.
But the discount applied was £60 because they said that kids don’t count. Then when I questioned it they said some adult meals wouldn’t have come to £20 in order to get the full discount and the kids would have had a smaller discount so they were being generous.
I’ve looked at the rules on gov.uk and it clearly states all diners Including children get the discount, and also when it’s multiple diners on a single bill there’s no need to add meals separately, 50% off can just be applied capped at £10 per head. So am I definitely right in thinking we should have got the bill halved to £92.50?
If so can I go back and complain?
Thanks if you understand and got through this, but I can’t help but feel I’ve been overcharged by over £30!

The maximum discount you would of got for the adults would of been £60.
It's up to £10 max per person not including alcohol

The kids count as well though????

You're right, there is no age limit. And you're entitled to £10 per person, even if one of them spent £50 and one spent £5, up to 50 per cent of the bill. The guidelines for businesses on the gov.uk confirm this.

From gov website.
No alcohol was purchased.

£92.50 is correct.

Pixxie7 · 01/09/2020 02:30

Isn’t it up to £10?

Cbatothinkofausername · 01/09/2020 05:33

It’s a maximum of £10 per person. So in our restaurant the kids fixed price is £9 including their soft drinks. So each kid gets £4.50 discount. Where as the adults get £10 off if they spend over £20.

How much were each kids meal and soft drinks?

Tiltheend · 01/09/2020 06:07

You are correct. 50% off up to £100 as there were 10 of you.

KurriKawari · 01/09/2020 09:14

Scenario 1:
Adults at £20 each, child at £9.
50% off total bill = £24.50

Scenario 2:
Adults at £20 each, child at £9.
50% off each meal = £24.50

I did not know this. Makes sense I guess as it would be totally impractical to do it per guest. I’m going to share the screenshot above with work.
