Holiday in France october

I have posted about this in July and whether to pay off this holiday or pay cancellation fees and lose the deposit. I decided to pay off the holiday.. which I’m wishing I didn’t now but I just wondered if anyone had any advice for me.. I booked this holiday before Covid was a known event.

I have spoken to my insurer this week and my travel agents who have said I cannot yet do anything to the holiday as it’s classed as going ahead, I can move to next year but the price goes up, which at the minute I can’t afford due to losing my job to covid, they have said to leave the holiday for where it is and if it’s going ahead go and if it’s not then hope it gets cancelled flights/accommodation then I will be eligible to a full refund, however if it doesn’t get cancelled and it changes too a 2 week quarantine I’m not eligible to a refund as it’s just advice and my choice whether to go or not!

I just wondered if anyone had any loopholes or anything? Thanks!

You seem to have researched the situation well and know what your options are, I don't thiink there are any loopholes, hundreds of thousands, maybe more, have been in this situation, there's no undiscovered magic solution.

Are you concerned about the quarantine?

tmh88 · 21/08/2020 07:43

Just worrying about potentially still having to pay cancellation fees when it gets closer to the time really.

@PleasantVille Sorry forgot to tag your name above. yes concerned about the quarantine too as we are living off DP wage at the minute so if advice changed while over there we couldn’t afford the 2 weeks unpaid off work.

I haven't read your previous thread so don't know the details, why would you have to cancel the holiday?

tmh88 · 21/08/2020 07:48

@PleasantVille just in case of the quarantine we would have to cancel

Cross posts, sorry, while it's nerve wracking I don't think you have much option but to hang on in and hope there's no quarantine by the time you go.

Do u not already have to quarantine for 14days when returning from France I no they lifted the quarantine from Portugal

tmh88 · 21/08/2020 08:09

@Noneyerbuisness11234 yes you do at the minute. Not sure if it will still be in place in 8/9 weeks or lifted or if I’ll go and it’ll go back into a quarantine while over there which is what’s making me nervous.

@tmh88 I see now what you mean I was soo confused lol I would just hold out and hope it's cancelled is it a lot more to move until next year and will the company not let u pay the difference in installments

tmh88 · 21/08/2020 08:24

@Noneyerbuisness11234 don’t worry I’ve felt permanently confused for a few months now!😂 it adds about £1500 because I need to pay for an extra seat on the flights (due to DS age changing) accommodation and going in the school holidays as at the minute the latest date I can change it too is next august as they only release the flights a year ahead! I think they would let me do instalments but I’m reluctant to pay any more at the minute whilst I don’t have a job! I’m not really sure what I want from this thread think it’s partly to talk to someone not in the situation and partly for some magical cure which most likely isn’t going to happen Blush

@tmh88 that is a lot of money I wouldn't change it either I think ur best bet is to hold out if it changes u can travel I find it very unlikely they'll lift it to impose it within 2 weeks more chance of them not taking the risk to lift it at all hope all goes well for u

tmh88 · 21/08/2020 14:30

@Noneyerbuisness11234 yes I think that’s my only option at the minute! Thank you I hope it goes to plan too Flowers

Leave it til close to the time and hope it all eases up. If not, you can then move it if you want to/feel you can afford to as it will be out of school holidays to book ahead. Or just suck up the cancellation fees. No magic trick, unfortunately.

tmh88 · 21/08/2020 18:17

@NoSquirrels yeah think that’s my only option unfortunately! Thanks anyway though.
