Lost a third of monthly income

Having just lost my part time job and a benefit for DD, we are now down 1/3 of our monthly income. I 'think' it will be ok, with a period of readjustment, but in moments of overthinking I do end up in a huge panic. I have gone though direct debits, cancelled Sky, a couple of job related monthly commitments and am meal planned till the end of the month. On paper the amount we have still to live on seems fine, it just feels like a huge step down.

I will read the many threads on here from people in a similar boat, but I just wanted to start my own story I guess, and to ask if anyone has any extra advice Flowers

I'm so sorry, just lost my job too yesterday, but I'm not as organised as you so can't offer any advice.

It is indeed shit, although I have to say today I went out bought a couple of steaks and some cheap fizz, my logic being I would see out my employment on a high noteGrinConfused

Start thinking about your irregular expenses - birthdays, haircuts, holidays, house insurance etc - and try to put away money each month. You might be fine in a ‘typical’ month but scrabbling in a month with extra commitments and that’s probably where you’ll feel losing the leeway you’ve had. So try to plan ahead if you can.

Oh I so identify with that Grin DD's bedroom is long overdue for an overhaul which is really tempting, but realistically, I am not sure it's such a smart idea at the moment.

Thanks Nosquirrels i have formulated a basic spreadsheet (kept me enterained during lockdown/furlough) so I can see where extra monies have been spent lately. That combined with the regular payments I am left with around £500 per month for myself and my 2 DDs (1 an adult) but obviously travel, holidays and sports activities have all been vastly reduced so it is a bit worrying thinking that will be not so much of a buffer.
